The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is the largest source of development financing for Latin America and the Caribbean. While it is a regular bank in many ways, it is also unique in some key respects. Besides loans, the IDB also provides grants, technical assistance and conducts research on the economic and social topics of greatest relevance to the region today. In addition to building its own reputation as the premier source of knowledge on Latin America and the Caribbean, the IDB also finances and mentors studies conducted by other institutions in order to build knowledge and research capacity in the region.
