Women’s and Gender Studies research to benefit from a dedicated new network on SSRN – WGSRN
Rochester, New York, October 27, 2017 – Elsevier, the information analytics business specializing in science and health, announces SSRN, its world leading working paper repository and preprint server, today launches the Women’s and Gender Studies Research Network – WGSRN.
WGSRN launches with over 4,000 working papers from 16 different areas of Women’s and Gender studies, ranging from Women and Health to Feminist Theory and Philosophy.
Shirley Decker-Lucke, SSRN Publishing Director, said: “We’ve created this new network because women’s and gender research deserves a preprint space of its own. WGSRN is interdisciplinary, covering areas such as women and law, as well as specific areas of gender studies research. This is the third new network SSRN has launched this year, following the success of BioRN, our new biology network, and ChemRN, our new chemistry network. I’m sure WGSRN will prove to be just as popular.”
A preprint is the author’s own write-up of research results and analysis that has not been peer-reviewed, nor had any value added to it by a publisher (such as formatting, copy-editing, technical enhancements). A preprint server, or working paper repository as they are also known, allows users to share these documents.
Researchers can post preprints and working papers on WGSRN, share ideas and other early stage research, and collaborate. It allows users to quickly upload and read abstracts and full text papers, free of charge.
SSRN is part of Elsevier, which implemented the EDGE (Economic Dividends for Gender Equality) program across its eight core business worldwide, becoming one of the first information service and technology companies to attain the EDGE Assess Certification globally. Elsevier has formed Gender Working Groups to address issues of importance to the research community, such as enhancing sex and gender reporting in research articles and achieving gender balance on our journal editorial boards and conferences. Earlier in the year Elsevier, in partnership with global experts, launched its ground-breaking report, Gender in the Global Research Landscape, to provide an analytical framework for better understanding the role of gender within the structure of the global research enterprise.
Elsevier is also proud to support the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 5: “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls” and the Global Research Council’s Statement of Principles and Actions Promoting the Equality and Status of Women in Research.
