West Virginia University College of Law is a dynamic community of exceptional faculty, students, and alumni who are legal, business, and public leaders throughout the state, the nation, and the world. Founded in 1878, WVU Law is the state’s oldest professional school. The West Virginia Law Review is the fourth oldest law review in the country. WVU Law offers a rigorous curriculum with one of the lowest student-faculty ratios (10.6:1) in the country. That curriculum combines traditional legal education with new areas of study necessary to equip students to practice law in the complex world of the 21st century and to address the emerging challenges of a global economy. For example, WVU Law recently launched the WVU Law Center for Energy and Sustainable Development to promote policies that strike a proper balance between the development of energy resources and protection of the valuable air and water supplies upon which future generations will depend. WVU Law also boasts a robust clinical legal education program that includes a civil clinic, family-medical-legal partnership, tax clinic, human rights and immigration clinic, innocence project, and a United States Supreme Court and Appellate Clinic. The WVU Law Research Paper Series contains abstracts, works in progress, and published papers, focusing on legal scholarship in all subject areas, from members of the WVU Law faculty, visiting scholars, and other members of the WVU Law community. The papers are published electronically and are available online or through email distribution.
